Abstinence Only and Teen Pregnancy

teen pregnancy
It seems that once again the Democrats in charge have backed down on stopping Abstinence Only education from being funded and taught in schools. According to RH Reality Check funding was continued to the Community-Based Abstinence Education program, a program that teaches teens to jsut say no to sex without adequately teaching them how to protect themselves in the case that they do have sex.

And they do. Trust me, they do.

It has been reported time and time and time again that Abstinence Only education not only fails to prevent sexual activities, it actually puts teens at risk for STDs and pregnancy.

I can't help but think of the Gloucester school now dealing with the large group of teen girls all pregnant. As the birth rates for teens continues to rise we may see more cases similar to this one. Especially when preventing pregnancies is not taken seriously.

The school forbids the distribution of condoms and other contraception without parental consent, a rule that prompted the school's doctor and nurse to resign in protest in May.

Now although i agree that abstinence only is the best method, i also can see that knowing all the options is important and awareness does have an impact on teen pregnancy.
However i found it quite curious reading this after reading your post "feminists like men". Couldn't the same logic be applied? that by telling an entire culture of teens that abstaining simply isnt an option we are effectively conducing them into teen sex?

If that were the case I would agree, however real sex education is not the same as telling them that abstaining isn't an option. It is looking at the situation realistically and helping teens make the best sexual choices they can. Real sex ed teaches that abstinence is good, however if you choose to have sex here are what you can do to be safer and healthier.

Accepting that sometimes teens have sex and instead of telling them not to and just being ignored you should teach them how to do so safely is far from the same as telling them that abstinence is not an option.
