Accepting Change....
We have undergone change that has been unprecedented in our lifetime. I took on the mantle of developing "outsiders" precisely to create a home to showcase such change in the political, economic, social and technological sphere. As I continue to think and reflect upon it, I also wanted to have a "home" to think it through and come up with potential ideas. The fascinating change within Technology is "Cloud Computing".
Cloud Computing is a concept that has been around for a very long time. It began in earnest when Ross Perot started his first company providing outsourcing services and project management services. Now, it has evolved such whereby major players such as Google, Amazon.com and Oracle/Sun provide "rent-a-capacity" services so that companies can basically pay for the computing capacity that they use. The need to maintain data centers, network adminstrators and all the expense at hand will just go away as a result of this. The company that I was surprised has embraced this in a major way is Netflix. What I also was surprised even further was the company Netflix chose to outsource all its' data center to: Amazon.com. Amazon.com is Netflix's biggest competitor.
What does the Netflix/Amazon Partnership teach folks in Washington and US Capitals about the need to get together is this: the need to compromise is ever more. The need to think different is paramount, along with a bit of common sense. I have to wonder whether it is too much to ask.
