Afghanistan: The Continued Fiasco
Afghanistan still does not have a President, yet. Karzai continues on pushing on with the fiction of having won the election. The United States and NATO, in the meantime, are continuing on with the fight of a lifetime. CBS News' interview with General McCrystal sent shivers through my spine:

One courageous man just lost his job telling it like it is in Afghanistan. I just read word that Peter Galbraith of the UN left Afghanistan because he had called for a complete recount of the Afghan vote. It angered Mr. Karzai and his ministers. Either Mr. Karzai does not understand, is blind or simply is so busy consumed with power that he can't see straight. I am sure if Zahir Shah was alive he would tell him that it was time to leave. But, there is no Zahir Shah anymore. Zahir Shah was the late King of Afghanistan who was acknowledged as Father of the Nation when the new Constitution was adopted.
The Taliban have the upper hand. Everyone seems to realize that. What will Obama do? I would love to be the fly on the wall in today's White House Meeting. The world already knows how bad it is thanks to General McCrystal. It is tough to be optimistic, but there is no other choice. Failure is truly not an option.
