Afghanistan: What Now?
President Obama promised a "surge" and a renewed focus on Afghanistan. I have profound reservations about whether it will work or not. Billions have gone into the Country with no apparent result. One staggering statistic I reviewed was the number of street children in Kabul. An estimated 37,000 children work the streets supporting their families due to the immense povertry going on. As this has been going on, the rich seem to get richer. This report from 2008 continues to be ever more true today in Afghanistan:

Afghanistan has profound possiblities....but it has been at the forefront of power politics since the 1979 Iranian Revolution. I wonder if obama's recent order to "surge" the troops will have an impact or not.....I think it is a mistake...and will be writing about within the next few days....
