Al & Tipper Gore: Why?
June 2nd 2010 05:26
I was shocked to hear about the separation by Al & Tipper Gore. They were high school sweathearts, were married for 40 years and had four children together. They said it was a "friendly" separation.
This separation brings home the simple fact that marriages are tough. But, for every separation, there are those that somehow stand the test of time and survive. The one that comes to my mind is the Clintons. Despite the repeated affairs that Bill Clinton had, both Bill and Hillary seemed to maintain a common interest about the so-called "Clinton Brand". Their dedication to public service and public policy is something that I admire deeply. Maybe that has helped them work through their challenges.
The Grand Canyon that developes between two people is something I always wonder about. I wonder if it can be overcome. What I do know is that challenges can be overcome and the need not to take it personal is as important a part as ever. But, sometimes, the bitterness takes a very long time to be overcome. Time can be the best healer. The question is always how much time. It seems to me that Al & TIpper could have somehow figured out a way to preserve this. I am sure in time it will all come out. It is always sad to see any couple who calls it quits especially when it could somehow be prevented.
