Another Solid Day!!!
The flood of good news keeps coming in. The President has already ordered GITMO to be closed. Secretary Clinton has reported for work at her new job:
Mr. Mitchell and Mr. Holbrooke will take on the major foreign policy headaches of America. There is a reaffirmation of the Geneva Convention and by implication, the rule of law. Wow!!!
If this is the second day, I wonder what the rest of the next four years has in store!!!
Mr. Holbrooke, the President's Representative to Afghanistan and Pakistan, has quite a job ahead of him. He basically is trying to save two failed states. Karzai the fool and his so-called ministers said that Mrs. Clinton's characterization of Afghanistan as a "narco-state" was wrong. Either Karzai is living infantasyland or is dellusional. Mrs. Clinton seems to have read Tariq Ali and those of us who had been agitating against the useless idiot for a long time!!! Karzai the fool needs to start getting used to some truly tough talk. Holbrooke was the man who was a key player that led to Dayton and the peace that Bosnia has enjoyed to this day. From what I have read of him, he won't mince words. The fool better get used to the fact that there is a new Sheriff in town. Yes, they still have two entities. But, at least they are not killing each other off in the middle of Europe.
I can't say enough about Senator Mitchell. The initial impression I had about his work in the Middle East was absolutely wrong. It turns out that his recommendations were ignored. Israel kept building settlements and the Palestinians kept fighting amongst each other. I wonder if they'd listened, what would have happend. The man who brought peace to Northern Ireland can do anything. When you create peace between two factions who hated each other for so long, you can do anything. He also helped fix Baseball, saved Walt Disney in its' darkest hour and was one of the most effective Senators of all time. I marveled at his calm and even keel demenaor whenever I caught Senate deliberations on C-Span. He is the perfect choice. The question is whether the Palestinians will get their act together and whether the Israelis will get off this notion of bombing their way to an artifical sense of security.
I also was glad to see that the President got to keep his Blackberry. I am sure that the Secret Service will see to it there are no issues. As a self-confessed Crackberry Addict, I'm jazzed beyond belief:
