As Iran approaches the 30th Anniversary of the Revolution....
Al Jazeera produced a tough, pragmatic and realistic assessment of the reign of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the last Shah of Iran. As I listened to this, I thought about the possiblities and the missed opportunities. I also wondered about the parallels with today's predicement as well with all that has gone on since the revolution:
I Knew The Shah (Part I)
I Knew The Shah (Part II)
As Iran has lived through 30 years of revolution and upheavel, one always wonders about what may have been. I also tracked down scenes from the Shah's funeral in Egypt on YouTube. I remember how Anwar Sadat honored his friend the Shah and I believe paid for it with his life. Egypt, in my view, has not been the same since then.
