KP Newsflash: Comcast Buying NBC Universal?!?!?

I have just seen a dispatch from Reuters noting that there is a rumor that Comcast, one of the biggest Cable Companies, wants to buy NBC Universal for 35 Billion Dollars. NBC Universal is owned by GE and Vivendi of France. This has been denied by Comcast.

I find even the discussion of such a deal to be interesting on several fronts. Comcast needs content. NBC provides that content. NBC owns a number of cable properties. There continues to be consolidation. So, the so-called synergies make perfect sense. But, old line media companies are a dying breed. With the continued evolution of the internet and the evolution of alternative media, why would comcast do it? Brian Roberts, Comcast's CEO is no pushover. I also think that Jeff Immelt, GE's CEO, is focused on realigning GE and the broadcasting business is frankly not aligned with GE's other businesses. This is something that I would be watching very closely.
