Elizabeth Edwards: Her Ordeal (A retrospective)
I have just concluded reading an excerpt of Elizabeth Edwards' Book in this week's Time Magazine. It is heart wrenching. I could not even imagine putting my wife in such a situation. It is immoral and unconsciounable.
Some said that she played into the game. But, she was the loyal protective wife. I see nothign wrong wtih that. I was very, very disappointed when John Edwards' affair came out. One expects a lot more from political leaders. My view was that he was blinded by ambition and all the goodwill he had built with his anti-povertry work went to waste completely. Beyond the political price, the personal price and the agony is something that should be a lesson to all.
Traditional families seem to continue to be under stress. It is understandable simply because of the pressures . Although the family and the structure does continue to evolve, some old and important values of deceny and intergrity must remain. We are all on a journey that won't last forever. All we will live is our good name and how we tried to make a difference. It is so true when she noted that, "....When I die, my place in the liveof others will be filled by other people....It is true for all of us...". Why waste it all and sacrifice it all for what she called a "come-on line". I wonder.
I think Elizabeth Edwards was gracious to have forgiven him. I also think that America is a forgiving nation as well. I am sure that John Edwards will work to somehow make a difference to overcome this shame.
