It is important to remember that Roe v. Wade did not mean that abortions could be performed. They have always been done, dating from ancient Greek days.
So you can imagine my disgust when I read an article about a woman in Chula Vista California who was feeding on that same desperate need. The woman passed her self off as a doctor to Hispanic women, claiming to provide low cost abortions for those who needed them. However she was not a doctor and her attempts at playing one nearly destroyed the very women coming to her desperate for help.
We are lucky today that abortion remains legal, that things such as this are rare and that when they happen the women can step forward about what happened without fear of going to jail themselves. Life before Roe v. Wade was a desperate time for women in the U.S. It is impossible to even know how many women died due to illegal abortions, deaths that were not reported due to the very nature of how they happened.
