George W. Bush: A Final Thought

George W. Bush flew away from the U.S. Capitol yesterday to a life of retirement. I had written repeatedly about my disagreements and disappointments with him on policy throughout his term. But, an Al Jazeera special of the Shah of Iran (which I wrote about earlier) forced me to think about George W. Bush. The special featured Professor Abbas Milani , an opponent of the Shah, who jailed and tortured for his opposition to the Shah. Professor Milani noted that he was convinced that the Shah loved Iran, but loved Iran "badly". I view George W. Bush in the same vain. I view his Presidency as an utter failure. That historical reality will not change despite the revisionism which we may be subjected to throughout the next number of years.
