Iran: The Calm before the Storm
January 7th 2010 07:32
Right now, things to be reasonably calm in Iran after the recent disturbances during Ashura. However, the activities are continuing. For me visiting the Green Movement's official website has been daily required reading to understanding the state of the opposition movement within the Country. I also review the website for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Site, SepahNews and the contrast is just striking.
As I reviewed the daily writeups on Rahe Sabz, the official site of the Green Movement, what shocked me was that the former Chief Prosecutor for Tehran, Saeed Mortazavi, was directly named by a Parliament Committee as being behind the deaths and the depicable condition at the Prison. I find it a significant development because this goes directly to the heart of the conservative establishment within the ruling gang currently in charge of the country. But, the aura of normlacy continues to be the way as Ahmadinejad is all smiles visiting a project site in Tehran:
Within the next thirty days, celebrations for the revolution is going to begin. The so-called 10-day period is going to be another major date to watch. The Revolutionary Guards have already said that they will defend the system and will crush any opposition. How many more people must die before there is a realization that what is going on right now is just not right?
