Is McCrystal Right?
May 31st 2010 06:16
Over the week-end, General McCrystal came out accusing Iran of training the Taliban. He tempered the comments by noting that Iran has been "helpful" in some respects. Yet, it appears that he also believes that Iran also is supporting the Taliban.
Although General McCrystal seems to be the hero of the day, the reality is that things are not going as well as the World is led to believe. There is the status of the useless Karzai that I simply cannot accept as the go-to-guy that America seems to embrace and believe. I cannot accept Iran supporting the Taliban. Iran almost went to war with the Taliban. The philosophy of the Taliban is totally out of whack with the Mullahs in Tehran currently push. It simply does not make any sense.
Afghanistan has been the graveyard of Empires. Despite President Obama's Claim about not wanting to occupy leaving by next year, reality is otherwise as it is underscored by the issuance of the Adminstration's National Security Strategy. What is the problem with actually beginning negotations instead of the carnage continuing?
As the Wars go on, some basic facts remain undisputed. 1000 Americans have lost their lives. Another 60 Billion in Funding was approved by the Congress as the Congress balked at extending unemployment benefit. 52 Cents out of every dollar is being spent on Military Spending. States and localities face deficits as far as the eye can see. Cities are eyeing Chapter 9 Bankrupcy. Teachers, Police Officers and Firefighters are losing their jobs. Although I commend General McCrystal for his service, I will say to him that blaming others for the fundemental flaws and misguided policies will not bring this war to a close. One has to think different. I don't see that happening right now.
