Israel vs. The World
This past week saw Israel be subject to quite a beating around the World. Israel, of course, sees it differrently in many respects. This was underscored when the latest statement came out after the weekly cabinet meeting in Israel.
Out of this, there is one ray of hope: there is consesus around the World about how Gaza has to change. John Kerry's view was that Israel's brutal policy is contributing to further enhancing Hamas' position in Gaza. What I also find very interesting is this term emerging called Liberal Zionism. The simple definitoin of it is what many of us are already. I have repeatedly declared that Israel has a right to exist in secure, recongizable borders. This notion of Israel being wiped of the face of the earth is simple nonsense.
We can believe in Israel while maintaining profound disagreements with the policies of successive Israeli Governments.
Israel has so much to offer to the World. If the Arabs (including Hamas) come to their senses and somehow come down from their preconceived notions, things can change. What Israel has to decide whether it has the courage to forgo this paranoia and for the true silent majority to emerge and demand that change must happen and happen now. If that silent majority truly emerges, it will immediately silence the amen crowd in the U.S. who seem to even be more hawkish that the Knesset!!!
When will this change occur? That's the question.
