Jacob Zuma's Wives

Respect for culture and tradition is something that is paramount to me. But, one thing I don't understand is the need for multiple wives. The king of Swaziland has, I believe, 12 wives who went on a shopping trip while half his country is ravaged with AIDS. Jacob Zuma, the ANC leader, is about to take on a fourth wife. I am trying to understand the culture and the rationale behind it. It is an enigma to me.
