KP Media Watch: As Comcast Eats Up NBC Universal
This past week has seen a massive change in the upper echelon of Management in big media. My eyes nearly popped out when I saw that Jeff Zucker was let go at NBC Universal. Comcast's COO, Steve Burke, is to take over. The key executive at CNN was also fired as CNN works to revamp its' lagging fall lineup.
The problem is that the 4th Estate has fallen pray to the almighty dollar. The idea of informing the public seems to play second fiddle to meeting Wall Street Numbers. As I watched a CNBC special on Ted Turner, I yearned for such courageous visionaries. I see none on the horizon, right now.
As I have continued to assess the state of the Media, I am not per se worried about who is in and who is out. What I hope Mr. Burke does is to insure that the freedom of expression continues to be the case and not impose their agenda just like Mr. Murdoch has done at Fox. What is bothersome is how the people have less and less hoice
