KP Newsflash (12/23/2009): New York Politics
As 2009 comes to a close, New York politics became a bit more clearer. Rudy Giullani declined to run for either the U.S. Senate or Governor of the State. I think it is a major development. His 'excuse" was that he had too much on his plate to get back into public office. Rick Lazio, who Hillary Clinton trounced, now wants to run for Governor. This development, in my view, insures that the State of New York stays firmly in Democratic hands.
The race for Governor is Andrew Cuomo's to lose. As for Senator Gillibrand, she has a good chance to overcome any expected challenge from the Republicans. This is especially so in light of the conservative strand within the Republicans being in revolt as they are. But, 2010 will be a tough year for Democrats in light of the continued economic calamity in the country which I just released a write-up on in KP's sister site, Outsider Views.
What is certain is that there is never, ever a dull moment.....
