KP Newsflash (12/26/2009): The Incident on Delta/Northwest Flight

A Nigerian tried to set off a bomb on an inbound Northwest flight to Detroit, Michigan on Christmas Day. I have been reviewing the reports and it appears to be quite a serious breach of security. Apparently, the guy got the stuff in Yemen, boarded the flight in Nigeria and then got on a connecting flight from Amestrdam.


Typically transit controls are not stringent, the fact that the guy got into the plane as he did is cause for alarm. This also shows that Al Qaeda's long reach and decentralization will continue to present challenges to intelligence agencies around the world.
