The Country of Niger has suffered a Coup. Niger was the country that became prominent when President George W. Bush talked about the so-called yellow cake during his 2002 State of the Union Speech. This was debunked by Joe Wilson which subequently led to the poor guy's wife being outed and thus, ending her career at the agency. It was not exactly America's finest hour--not withstanding what the right said about it.
Niger's President decided to do a Mugabe & a Qadaffi for Niger. He changed the constitution to run again as the country suffered. Now, the military stepped in to remove the President. What is unfortunate is that the military needs to understand that it must stay out of politics. Getting this understood by the military forces of the world seems to be as much of a challenge as ever.
The President of Niger is right now in Military Custody. The world has condemned it. They really should not because the President of Niger brought it upon himself by letting power get to his head. I welcome the condemenation by the African Union and Ecowas. I wonder if the military would live up to the committment to restore Democracy.
