KP Newsflash (3/30/2010): Burma's NLD is not joining the charade!!!!
Burma continues to suffer. The thugs want to have their way. Yet, Burma's National League of Democracy continues to be the voice of reason and courage in the midst of so much repression.
Over the last 24 hours, I was gratified to see that they had decided against participating in the so-called election charade that the thugs have arranged on advise of their courageous leader, Aung San Suu Kyi. The thugs have set the rules, have picked the so-called commission to run it and now will make sure that their role is enshrined going forward. The tragedy would have been compounded if they participated.
As this so-called election draws near, the only thing that will happen is that the mliitary will continue to do its' thing and the so-called government that emerges will be nothing but a puppet of the military. The thugs must answer for why they did not allow the NLD to take power in 1990. They stole the election, they ran the country to the ground and now they want to perpetuate their power.
I commend the National League of Democracy for the courage to speak for truth and justice. I also hope that NLD's Deputy Leader is right when he noted that there will be other ways to peacefully protest against the current state of affairs in the country. Time will tell.
