KP Newsflash (6/30/2010): Another Afghan Attack
June 30th 2010 08:56
The Taliban have pulled off another attack. This attack was on the NATO base in Jalalabad. From what I understand, it is the second largest base after Khandahar.
I regard this attack as quite significant. This is as General Petraus went through a swift hearing before the US Senate Armed Services Committee. What apparently is not truly understood is that Afghanistan is not Iraq. General Petraus is not a magician. He is a political General and did hedge his bets. The warnings about escalating violence are ever more holding true.
I continue to question what "winning" means. David Cameron and Barack Obama committed to a five year timetable for withdrawal. This means that calls for withdrawal and this so-called deadline that the Republicans are so excited about just is not going to happen.
There is one one reality in the midst of all the rhetoric: America is spending 7 Billion Dollars a month and the end game is yet to be truly clear and convincing on a war that increasingly looks to be lost. I have to wonder what would Eric Holder be able to accomplish after being at war for 9 years? When will policymakers listen to reason and allow the Afghan to begin living in peace?
