KP Week-End: Iran's Quds Day/ The Aftermath
Well, Quds Day came and went. There was a massive turnout of opposition supporters in cities throughout the country. The key opposition leaders were attacked and the pictures of an ex-President being attacked showed the continued lack of moral legitimacy of the regime.
As the people continue to plot their next move despite all the repression going on, the world continues to apply pressure on the Islamic Republic. Iran and the U.S. are going back and forth as always. The noise is frankly deafening at times. KAL, as always, captures the essence of the back-and-forth going on. Although Mr. Khameini's latest prouncement on Iran's nuclear ambitions is interesting, no one believes him. He is the same guy who saw to it that the opposition was crushed and the last vestige of Democracy was taken away.
As Ramadan came to a close, there was a profound sense of disgreement between the top religious authorites in Iran. Mr. Khameini declared Sunday to be the last day of Ramadan, but a number of other major religious scholars either stayed silent or declared Monday the 21st of September as the end of Ramadan. Mr. Khameini is not accepted by other religious authorities within Shia Islam and he has to contend with that. Of all the struggles right now, I regard this as the one to really watch right now.
