KP Week-End: The Election In Nevada/The Fantasy World of Sharon Angle
Sharon Angle and Rand Paul's rise has given the so-called mainstream media a lot to write about. They are certainly a story now that the Tea Party's support has allowed them to be the Republican Nominee.
Sharon Angle is a fasincating character. From what I have seen so far, she's advocated the elimination of the IRS, getting rid of Social Security and the EPA. She's also had some other "nutty" ideas too. It was quite remarkable to see the local Las Vegas station call her out on it after she took refugee in the so-called conservative talk show circuit, including Hannity and Fox and Friends. What is Sharon Angle afraid of? She, of course, sought to turn the tables on Harry Reid and run away from her own pronouncements:
I nearly fell off my chair in laughter when I read reports that no less person that John Ensign had counseled her to be careful. I view her nomination as the lease on life Harry Reid needs just to get back into the Senate. Jon Ralston, the Nevada Political Supremo, seems to disagree. Supposedly, Sharon Angle has had an extreme makeover. But, that makeover should be exposed for what it is--a charade that hides the true nature of the person. The fact that one of the leading Republicans in the State is throwing his support behind Harry Reid should speak volumes.
Harry Reid's son is also running for office. He's running for Governor and is apparently behind in the polls. Some say that presents a problem. I'd say that the people of Nevada should judge a man on the merits of their record, not who someone's father is.
There is no question that Nevada is in trouble. Whether the troubles from the home front will force Harry Reid into retirement is now a big question now that Sharon Angle is in the picture. I would be keen to watch the debate between the two. It should be fun to watch.
