Liz Cheney: The Future of the Republican Party!??!?
Liz Cheney is the daughter of Dick Cheney, the former Vice President of the United States. The stories of Mr. Cheney's power and influence during the George W. Bush Adminstration has been the talk of the town for the longest time. But, Liz Cheney is also quite smart and has become a leading advocate for the Neo-Cons and the twisted and discredited view of the World that has brought us to where we are today. She is clearly positioning herself to be a force to be reckoned with in Republican Politics.
Liz Cheney has become a regular on the talk shows on US Television Networks. U.S. Television networks work to be "balanced". But, they let Liz Cheney get away with anything for the sake of being "balanced". One of her latest "projects" is a new initiative called "keeping America Safe". She started this with Mr. Neo-Con himself, Bill Kristol. They want to keep America Safe and have launched a broadside against the Obama Adminstration. One of the things they noted in their opening manifesto was a bogus claim that the Obama Adminstration cut the defense budget. Nothing could be further from the truth. Just because an outdated Airplane was cut does not meant that the Defense Budget was cut. There is a 6% increase in the defense budget for the new year. Yet, this fiction continues to be pushed--as does others.
As I read about her background, I noticed that she touts herself as an Expert on the Middle East, having served as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Near East Affairs. This means that she was one of the top officials dealing with Middle East Issues at the State Department. If she was in the thick of it, then how come Iraq is the disaster it is? Then how come the Israeli-Palestinian issue is such that the peace would never be?
As Ms. Cheney and her father work on their version of history, they need to be held to account for their tenure. Although we have to move ahead, if such individuals elect to sit in judgement, they have to be prepared to be judged. Liz Cheney is an eloquent voice for folks who yearn for the past. The country has moved on. Liz Cheney and others are working very hard to sell a vision that is simply not credible. The danger is that the people may actually buy into this if what Barack Obama promised will not come to pass.
