The study was led by Professor Charles Wilf of Duquesne University, used a national survey of more than 750 graduating college seniors to compile his data.
The Duquesne survey indicates that 51 percent of women and only 35 percent of men polled expect to earn under $30,000 in their first year after college. 12 percent of women and 24 percent of men expect to earn more than $50,000. The gender gap among business students it is not as wide, with 56 percent of women and 67 percent of men majoring in business expecting to earn more than $50,000 in three years.
The findings should come as no surprise however. The wage gap in America between men and women has been well documented. Typically women earn only 80 cents to every man's dollar after college. As the years go by the gap widens even more so that a mere ten years later women are only earning 69 cents to that same dollar. It is not education or training that is causing this, Senator McCain.
