Mr. Netanyahu is going to Washington
The Israeli Prime Minister has a date with Mr. Obama. The whole world is taking stock and watching to see what comes out of it.
So far, Mr. Netanyahu has kept his cards plenty close to his chest. I welcome the assertiveness shown by the Obama Adminstration. It took a lot for Joe Biden to tell AIPAC that Israel had to stop building settlements and accept the two state solution. If Mr. Netanyahu sees the light and realizes that his nation's long-term security will mean living to the two state solution, it will pull the rug from under the radicals.
The need to move is ever more important. Israel has to be loved. But, the time for Israel to be given a dose of "tough love" is in order for her own long-term benefit. The futility of conflict and war is one thing that the world can do without. Too many lives have been wasted for a vague concept of security. No one is fooled by it.
As I eagerly await the results of the meetings in Washington, I am glad about one thing: the Foreign Minister, Mr. Lieberman, seems to be behaving himself. Let's see if the Obama Charm works.
