Oh Noes! Teh Gays In Military!

Everyone has been talking about the hilarious video of Congressman Patrick Murphy questioning Elaine Donnelly on "Don't Ask, Don't Tell". You can see Murphy and others both fighting back laughter and anger at this woman trying to make her insane point.
To Donnelly every homosexual person is a sexual predator waiting to strike, an idea that is absurd to those of us living in the real world. However, I've come to conclude that most conservatives do not live in the real world so it shouldn't be a surprise that they are unfamiliar with how it works here.
There are two points of the video that strike out the most to me. First, I adore that Congressman Murphy did what so few are willing to do. Take a wingnut conservative's attempt at insulting others and shows exactly how it really insults the people they claim to protect. It seems logical. Saying that women need to dress modestly and not engage in normal dating behaviors to prevent rape and assaults really is saying that men are such horrible creatures that they will rape at the slightest sight of a woman. In the same way Murphy points out that if she is so afraid that openly gay people in the military will cause our soldiers to put down their guns and start having orgies in the barracks, she is also saying that she looks down quite a bit at our soldiers.
Screaming "Look, look at what his presence will make me do!" doesn't cover up the fact you are the one so weak as to lose all claimed values by simply being in the presence of another person.
Second, I choked up a little at Donnelly's example of how how bad gays in the military are. One woman was assaulted by a group of lesbians, therefore all lesbians are sex crazed rapists. By her logic we should not let straight men in the military either as we all know what they happen to do to fellow soldiers and to civilians. Though some how I'm sure Donnelly would take that to mean women should not be allowed in the presence of men not their fathers, brothers, or husbands. "Cause that would totally stop rape right?
While the state of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" was being revisited, and likely not to be changed at the time, a recent poll showed that the majority of Americans are in favor of gay military personnel, open or not.
Watch the video yourself and enjoy.

The change in support for openly gay service members has been striking. In 1993 fewer than half – 44 percent – believed they should be allowed to serve, rising to 62 percent in 2001 and today’s 75 percent. Support for gays who remain silent on their orientation is up
from 63 percent in 1993, though about the same now as in 2001.

Great post-- God, Donnely really did choke on a strap on when posed with this question didn't she... I like how the fundamental view conservatives hold, is basically that Gays/Lesbians/Blacks/ or anyone even slightly different to themselves is a second class human.
I wounder how the conservatives would manage if they were left to fend for themselves on an island- I don't think they'd last long, do you?

What she fails to remember is, gays number among the highest awarded and honoured "military heroes", some of whom have spoken out publicly against the ludicrous practise.
In Oz, Britain, Canada, even Israel, in all arms of their Forces, your sexuality is not even questioned, and many gays are members and there are no morale 'difficulties' whatsoever.
It is the long arm of white racist supremacist bigotry, hiding behind yet another smoke screen.
