Will the Republicans Listen?

The debate within Republicans is continuing. The Republicans will emerge stronger, if they listen to the voice of reason shown by guys like Joe Scaraborough and Mike Murphy:

Now, the question before is whether the Republicans will have the courage to repudiate the RNC Gang that seems to be dominating the GOP. The country will be better for it if a genuine alternative is presented that would work to address the long-term challenges the country has.

KP Newsflash: The Elections in the State of Virginia

Virginia's Democrats have spoken. They have nominated a State Senator, Creigh Deeds, to take the fight to the Republicans. Some analysts have noted that the election is Virginia is a toss-up. But, I disagree. Virginia will stay in Democratic hands. I also think that the margin of Democrats in the House and the Senate will also increase. The Republican won't go down without a fight though. The Democrats seem to realize that.

Will we emerge from our Economic Winter?

As I have thought about and written about our Economic Winter, I have continued to see signs of "hope" and "recovery". I have not been following the stock market simply because it is not a good sign. The Vice President had an interview on CNN today and he said flat out that job losses will continue at least through the end of the year.

Of all the economists out there, I regard two Economists as the ones I would be listening to going forward. I have just reviewed Nouriel Roubini's Comments at a gathering in Toronto. I also listened to Paul Krugeman as well. They are both in unisom in noting how bad things continue to be. There is light at the end of the tunnel and I do believe that it will pass. I don't know when this will happen, though.

The struggle continues.......

Dick Morris & His Friends Needs to Take a Chill Pill

Dick Morris is a savvy guy. I got his latest pronoucement on a repeal of The U.S. Declaration of Indepndence. What Dick and the rest of the crowd he hangs around with fail to realize that the so-called system we have had for the past 30 years has failed. It has failed miserably. Regulators were asleep at the wheel. Maddoff and Sanford were just extreme examples. What about Citigroup? What about Bank of America?

What Dick and the rest of the paranoid crowd who think that we're on the way to Socialism ignore the fact that those on the left are hammering away at the actions being taken as inadequate. Those of the so-called left say that the Obama Adminstration is working to basically repair a broken, flawed and inadqueate system. Instead of calling everybody Socialist and advocating doing nothing, there needs to be a concerted worldwide action to live through the Great Recession. Anything else is irresponsible. The pundits can have their say. It will ben entertaining reading--nothing more!!!

The State of the Black Union

Tavis Smiley, The African-American Radio & TV Personality, has moderated The State of the Black Union for 10 years. I caught a glimpse of it on C-Span on Saturday. There were a number of leading African American Participants on a panel talking about civil rights and the obligations of African Americans not to "rest" now the Barack Obama was President. Rather, they all seemed to agree that the real work and the struggle continues.

Al Sharpton was his usual, vocal self. There was one comment he made that I think was true and "right on". He related the story of a discussion he had with a conservative African American. The gentleman noted that he rose to the level he had because of his impressive resume and Civil Rights had nothing to do with his achievements. True to form, Al Sharpton's response to him was that Civil rights did not get you to where you are today, but Civil Rights was the reason that you resume was reviewed and the opportunities was given to you. When he said it, the entire audience rose up to applaud him, including Michael Steele, the new Chair of the Republican National Committee. It is the greatest legacy of Civil Rights and the struggle and sacrifice of African Americans beginning with Fredrick Douglas onward so that all Americans will have an equal chance to succeed.

Hilda Solis Runs Into Trouble

I reported on the nomination of Hilda Solis to be Secretary of Labor. I read reports that her nomination was held up due to her husband's tax problems. My reaction to this report was "good grief". Although Senator Kennedy seems to continue to support her, I think that she should not be railroaded.

Her background, in my view, makes her perfectly suited to be able to insure that the workers of America have an effective to play. I believe that she will be confirmed so that the business of the American Worker can be pursued in the most forceful way possible.

The Obama Expectations Game

Mr. Obama's big day is approaching fast. Sunday, there was party!! Today is King Day in America. The President-Elect called everyone to action to serve. Now, On Tuesday at 12:01 PM EST, he will take on the enormous challenges facing him.

The write-up by William Kole of the Associated Press (Source: Really Long Link noted how the world is now starting the enormous challenges Mr. Obama will be taking on. The whole word needs to understand that it took a long time to get here. It is not going to be fixed tomorrow. Obama is an ordinary guy who has had potentially greatness thrust upon him. The whole word needs to give the guy a chance to breath and take the challenges. I view his team as a strong team that can make a good run at it

Country First is Born....

John McCain has risen from the ashes (in a figurative way). He has decided to launch Country First Really Long Link to help elect Republicans and to "rebuild" the party. I had been wondering what he would do for a while. I got my answer late on Wednesday.

What McCain did was in the spirit of what Howard Dean has done with Democracy For America and what I sense Barack Obama will do as it transforms its legions into a force for change. I'll be keen to see the continued transformation as we begin a new era in less than two weeks. Everyone is anxious and afraid

Lincoln Was A Republican!

Lincoln
I've heard this page being ripped out of the history books often this election cycle, no doubt in an effort to combat the fact that a person of color is running for President on the Democratic ticket. The truth is that yes, Lincoln was a Republican. In fact, looking back at history Republicans were the progressive party of the United States.

The problem happens when Republicans cross their arms and assume they've won the battle by simply bringing that up. Perhaps they honestly believe the parties did not change lines, but I'm betting more on the fact that they are hoping you don't know that. The republican party of today is barely recognizable to the party that it began as. As the Democrats tossed off the Southern White vote, moving towards a more progressive stance the Republicans were eager to scoop those voters up and make them their own. Which often meant turning back the original party ideals

Clintons 4 McCain? Not Likely.

Via Womanist Musings:

Clintons For Mccain
This video is of a group of women claiming to be Clinton supporters who have gone over to McCain. personally, my opinion is that if any of these women were actually Clinton supporters then I've got some ocean front property in Kansas to sell you. The amount of racism and hatred expressed here is absurd and I cannot see how anyone who agrees with Clinton's policies and what she stood for could A) vote for McCain of all people, and B) spread so much blind hatred against another person based on where he went to school. Frankly, the fact that she refused to provide any proof says more than enough to me about the honesty of the group

Does Obama Eat Fetuses?

Obama
The current attack that anti-choicers like to make against Obama is insisting that he created some bill forcing doctors to kill newborn infants if the mother says to. Of course the wording of the attack changes depending on who says it like a political game of phone tag. Some say he created the law, some say he only voted for it, and some say he collects newborn babies for his dinner. Media Matters has been taking on this rumor and writing about the reality of what happened for those who care. Not that I expect the anti-choicers to care about little things such as facts, but it's still nice for the rest of us.

Unfortunately the anti-choicers have enough voices in the media spreading misinformation that they can pull off saying whatever they want. A recent episode of The War Room With Quinn & Rose had a guest host Mike Pintek claiming that Obama "believes so firmly in abortion, he is so radical in his support for abortion and infanticide that he believes that if a woman chooses abortion, she's entitled to a dead body no matter what." Media Matters responded

Biden's Love-Hate Relationship With McCain

Obama Biden
As soon as Obama announced Biden as his VP choice the McCain wheels began turning to put together an ad making it seem that Biden is more of a McCain supporter than an Obama one. it's an interesting strategy, telling people that Obama's own VP doesn't have faith in him to be President. The short, 30 second ad featuring a short clip of a question and answer session Biden was a part of during his own very early presidential run. Though the debate was not dated in the ad giving the subtle impression that Biden's comments are much more recent than they are. And, of course, if Biden says that he has come to know Obama better and feel more secure in his ability it will be played as flipflopping.
