Shame on Afghanistan
Afghanistan's so-called President, Karzai the fool, has signed a law which effectively legalizes rape within marriage and further restricts women's rights. According to the reports I have reviewed, it bans women from refusing to have sex with their husbands and notes that they can only seek work, education or medical care with their husbands' permission. Karzai signed this into law!!!
The West should be alarmed by this law. First of, Karzai the fool's argument was that women in Afghanistan are in a better position than they were seven years ago. This law effectively debunks that myth. I also view this law as a sign of the utter desparation by the Afghan Political elite to cater to the fundementalists. The potential bankrupcy of the Afghan experiment is the biggest fear that I have as the Obama Adminstration pushes the so-called "surge" strategy. The future is to be feared!!!
