The Arrogance of Republicans

It clearly appears that the Republicans are all talk and no jive. The Republicans "say" that they were not brought in to be consulted on the stimulus plan. This delay and "cry-baby" mentality continues to cost America and the world dearly. I think the entire House and Senate Republican leadership has to explain the past 8 years. They're all of a sudden getting "religion" (well said by Bill Press earlier in one of the shows) and to what end:

What is even more sickening is what Rush Limbauagh said today. He says that the President is afraid of him. I truly realized what an idiot Rush is. I truly realized that he is a legend in his own brain. As Pat Buchanan said, he is an entertainer. But, Rush has not right to be disrespectful of the President and should act like a responsible American. How dare he wish that the President fail? Doesn't he think that if the President fails, it means that the country has failed. Thankfully, there are reasonable conservatives like Bill Bennett are out there telling the world that Rush was out of line. So what that he's got 20 million listeners.

The Republicans only talk bipartisanship--nothing else. . I was especially disappointed in John McCain yet again when he "demanded" a major re-write of the stimulus plan after all that Obama did to reach out to him. As this debate goes on, the economy continues to sink deeper into the abyss. I wonder if the Republicans realize that the alternative is even worst. I wonder if they saw the President's speech:

For the past eight years, the GOP has been exceedingly irresponsible and hypocritical on spending. That's why they're now in the minority. HOWEVER, the makeup of this "stimulus" bill worries me greatly. If it was TRULY all stimulus and tax cuts, I'd be (reluctantly) okay with it. However, it's not. As can be expected, it has lots of pet projects and pork that will do almost nothing to create jobs. Before we write a check that we'll be spending the next 100 years paying off, I don't think it's too much to ask that we take a few weeks and go through each project (some of which will cost tens or hundreds of millions of dollars) and determine whether it's stimulative. If they want to grease the wheels, they go ahead and approve the projects that both parties agree on. However, this bill needs to be scrutinized (as would your own household budget). This is OUR money and the future earnings of our children and grandchildren that they're spending.

The GOP was just a rubber stamp for the president for years. Let's not make the same mistake now that we have a Dem Congress and President. They need to do their job and evaluate the bill to see if it (or what parts of it) is doing what it was intended to do.

Thanks for your visit and your comments.

I wish all conservatives were as reasonable and reflective as you. The future of the nation is at stake. We should not be penny-wise and dollar fool. The whole world is reeling..and we have to make sure we move and move now.

Thanks. I'm not a hyper-partisan. Frankly, I can't stand either party. Spending this much money, though, sickens me. And I've heard that only 6-14% (different reports from different people) of the bill is infrastructure. A lot of it is just the Democratic spending wishlist that has been building up for years. They should focus on what will give jobs and stimulate the economy right now. Leave out the pet projects.

As if the $850BB figure isn't enough, I read today that the total cost is about $1.25 TRILLION (including the interest on the $850BB). Why, again, is money from the bill going to ACORN? Why are $$ going to contraceptive education? The bill passed the House today, but every Republican and 11 Democrats voted against it. This bill is a boondoggle. They need to strip it down to the stimulus part (which was what OBAMA said he wanted -- stimulus). Save the other crap for another day.
