The Far Right's On-Going Rampage in the US

February 13th 2010 04:33
This was the week that saw the far right again go after Bill Clinton as he was taken to the hospital with chest pains. I was sorry to hear about his heart condition. Whatever one may think of Bill Clinton and his pesonal shortcomings, no one will argue that he works passionately for the causes he believes in and his foundation has done good work around the world. But, there are always detactors. One of the key detractors is, of course, Sean Hannity.

Sean Hannity uses his radio show and his Fox shows to preach his vision of America. That's his right. He has the right because the First Amendment gives himi that right. What I found hillarious was his "Great American Panel" a few days ago. It featured Jackie Collins and John Fund. They went on an attack binge on Bill Clinton. Jackie Collins talked about Bill Clinton's "Zipper Problem". Although Jackie Collins is a best-selling author, sitting in judgement of a former President of the United States was frankly, laughable. I truly like to understand what qualification does she have to sit in judgement.

Whatever Bill Clinton is, he is a former President of The United States who made a difference. Some may make a case that some of the seeds of our current economic difficulties were planted during the Clinton Years with Gramm-leach-Biley and other moves. What those detractors fail to understand is that the people who subsequently took over were on a rampage to destroy Government and it resulted in the near-depression that the World averted.

I find the campaign by the far right to push their agenda to be worrisome because they seem to be making headway. This is underscored by the inability of the Democratic Majority in Congress to exert its true influence. I have to wonder what is the deal with everything having to attain a super majority. I sincerely hope that the effort by Senator Harkin and Senator Shaheen succeeds to modify the fillibuster rule. This US Senate rule has essentially meant that the Republicans hold sway over the country.

What the Republicans have done is basically say no. Just saying No is irrresponsible and will not move things along. Hanntiy, Malkin, Beck and the rest of the Far Right Amen Crowd can attack Clinton all they want. It is entertaining and funny. What must happen is a concerted campaign to raise the intellectual awareness through the facts and just the facts. This is critical for a strong, vibrant engaging society. I wonder if the Republicans truly understand this.
