The Gaza Tragedy (Cont'd)
The true cost of the Gaza Tragedy is starting to be ever more evident. The UN Secretary General just made it into Gaza and saw for himself the extent of the devastation:
This tragedy is being simply compounded by the Arabs not being to agree on how to come together over Gaza. Israel has also come out and annouced that it will continue its' blockade of Gaza until the status of Gilat Shalit is resolved. It seems as if Israel's conditions continue to change. Up to two days ago, Mark Regev and other mouthpieces of the Israeli Government were just saying that if the missiles stopped, they would start the dialogue. Israel needs to tell the world what it wants. I also find it quite ironic that for a country that wrecked so much havoc on the helpless, it is not being held to account.
The Palestinians are the bigger problem. The divisions and utter sense of irresponsiblity they have had has allowed the Israelis to take advantage of it. The toothless Arab reaction to the tragedy has compounded this. Hamas will emerge stronger politically. Israel will also continue its' apartheid policy in the territories and its' near-apartheid policy in Israel proper until such time as someone reminds the Israelis that they have to figure out a better way. The Apartheid Wall, The "Jewish Only" roads and the checkpoints are just symbols that the world struggled against in South Africa, in Zimbabwe, in India and in America. Why can't the world overcome it in Israel remains to be seen. Israel must understand it because of the very experience they have had. I wonder if they do.
