Elena Kagan sat through the first day of the "charade" that is supposedly about a hearing. Jeff Sessions started by congratulating her and then really attacked her in a major, major way. Jeff Sessions Opening remarks was basically a page out of the 18th Century. Frankly, I was sickened. Solicitor General Kagan was right when she noted how much of a charade it all was. What is wrong with wanting to help insure that the law is applied? What is wrong with wanting to help transform?
Jeff Sessions and the rest of the Republican Gang laid out a vision that basically rejected the advances of the past 100 years in America. If America wanted to truly buy into Jeff Sessions' vision, then America would still be separate but equal. The U.S. Constitution has stood the test of times precisely because America has understood to evolve and change.
Chief Justice Roberts said that judges call balls and strikes. All that the Roberts Court has done is to find for Corporations and against the average man on the street. If the Citizens United Case is any indication, the trend is quite worrisome. Chief Justice Roberts' objection to President Obama's criticism was also quite startling.
As I virtually attend the hearings, What I know is this: she will be confirmed.
