The Plight of Women in the Solomon Islands
Al Jazeera featured a 16-year girl who was married off to a Malaysian logger in the Solomon Islands. The plight of women in the Solomons is especially of interest in light of what is going on with the increasingly frail economy due to the destructions of forests in the Solomons. What was heart breaking about the plight of this girl was that she apparently cared about this older man and the fact that she was pregnant at 16. It is indeed a sad story that has international implications.
