The Republicans In Action Over the Past 24 Hours
I have been fascinated with Chris Christie. He has been on the prowl since he rose to power in New Jersey. But, I really laughed when I saw this report:
As I listened to this, I first thought about the issue of leadership. The fact was that any leader would make sure that he accepted responsiblity and thereafter move on. Although as the local New Jersey reporter noted this "he said/she said" nonsense by the Governor, the fact remains that Christie tried to shirk responsibilty for this oversight. The Education Commisioner was fired after the tape shown in this report surfaced noting that the Education Department tried to get the information and it simply did not happen. So, Mr. Christie lied and he is the one who has to explain to the people of New Jersey why under his watch, they lost 400,000,000 dollars in this era of austerity.
As I listened to Christie self destruct, I read Tom Coburn's note about the fact that Newt Gingrich will be the last one he would vote for President. Although I have had some profound reservations about some of Tom Coburn's pronoucements and his invovlement with the John Ensign Scandal, I still respect him for his candor. When he expresses reservations about Gingrich, Gingrich needs to have a lot to think about. Of course, as one of his ex-wives said, he says one thing in public and believes one thing in private. I would imagine that he would stick to running his various think tanks and continuing his rants against the President.
Moving on to Alaska, the Democrats have a potential nominee in Joe Miller--the gift that keeps on giving. I wrote about him earlier in KP's sister site, Outsider Views. Lisa Murkowski is in the fight for her political life. Joe Miller's latest rant is a claim that Lisa Murkowski's Staff has accessed the State Voting System. What is strange is that one of Joe Miller's supporters is the Lt. Governor of Alaska who has already said that there is no breach. But he also noted that he would look into it.
As I surveyed the Republican Terrain over the past 24 hours, I had to wonder what the Republicans were truly after. It is only about one thing: Power. Is it worth trashing all the progress being made? I wonder as the elections gets in high gear.
