What Are You Voting For?
I was lucky enough this weekend to join in a great conversation with Erin Kotecki Vest and several others. Though a wide variety of topics were discussed the current political climate was one that came up over and over again. Specifically the debate over what are the hot topic issues this election year.
There were many that we all agreed on. The war, the economy, high gas prices, and wiretapping. Things that most people are thinking heavily about as we decide who will be the next leader of our country. However there was one topic that drew up quite the debate. Abortion.
The specific fighting came over whether or not abortion, and more in general all women's reproductive rights, are an important issue this election year. Is it something that deserves as much attention as the other hot topics do? The conversation seemed to be pretty split. Most of the more vocal women agreed that reproductive rights are important to how we will vote this year. On the flip side our host felt that while they are important these rights are not as important as the war or the economy are.
Personally I feel that abortion, birth control, and other areas of reproductive health for women is always important. Aside from the fact that without these 48-51% of the population would be reduced to walking wombs, something that cannot be good for the nation as a whole, losing those rights could be devastating for the other areas of concern. Higher birth rates, maternal mortality, a decrease in women in the workforce, an increase in teenage pregnancy, all of these things could happen if abortion and birth control are not looked at seriously.
Reproductive Rights are certainly on my top five list of issues that are important to this year;s election. Along with the war, the economy, civil rights, and the environment. These are all things that I feel deeply inspired by this year. While I know that personal feelings will vary greatly between people I can't help but feel that this list reflects the many issues most people in America are interested in.
What are your top five issues this election year? What do you want to see addressed by the candidates as important to our country.

I'm not an American so I can't vote but I just want to say I am so glad that there are women like you over there fighting this fight.
1. Bringing our troops home safely and responsibly
2. Health Care
3. Economy
4.National Security
5. Maintaining a woman's right to chose
I am an American. I am female and these issues are important to me in this order. Number one will leave funds open to support 2-4.
