What Does Max Want?
I have been trying to assess the state of the healthcare debate since the President spoke of the need to reform healthcare this year. Everyone wants to reform it. I welcome that.
One such key player is Max Bachus. He is the Senior U.S. Senator from the State of Montana. a so-called Red State. He is the Chairman of the Senate Finance Commitee. He is pushing for the "Bachus" Plan to reform healthcare. He has published a 98 page report about his "vision for a healthcare plan. He held hearings on it earlier this week:

What I find distrubing that he refused to talk about Single Payer. He wants to reform the existing healthcare system. Healthcare is America's achilles heel. There has to be a fundemental transformation of healthcare. Simply dismissing it as "off the table" is not going to suffice. The reading I have done so far of the Bachus plan leads me to conclude that it is simply more of the same. I will continue to analyze it to understand what it entails.
The key question to ask is how America can continue to spend 20% of its' GDP on healthcare while almost 20% of its' population has no access to healthcare. I am not sure whether the Bauchus plan is the answer.
I end with what I began: What does Max Want?
