Over the last few days, I have been reporting on and reflecting upon the continued opposition protests in Iran. I discussed it at length in KP's sister site, Outsider Views. I am pleased the see how the world continues to be fascinated and riveted by the imagination and tenacity of the opposition and the protests continuing. What will continue to haunt the Government is the killings during Ashura. The scenes of security forces being overpowered by the ordinary folks was a site to see.
One major development for me was when Mehdi Karoubi, the former Presidential Candidate and one of the key players in the opposition movement, came out and blasted the Government for not upholding the tradition of non-violence and called them ungodly, it will be really interesting to see how things turn out. The fight within the political elite now has truly spread especially after the attack on Khatami during a speech. Not withstanding what current analysts are saying, I think that the upcoming anniversary of the revolution is going to be ever more pivotal not withstanding any attempts by the Government to quell the unrest. I am not sure if this will force the Government to fall, yet. But, I also remember and understand how the 1979 Revolution evolved and how things fell apart.
We are witness to history--and it is wonderful to be a witness to it.
