Witness to History: The Burial of Senator Kennedy
Like Millions around the world, I was witness to history today. Senator Edward Kennedy was laid to rest yesterday. Many of us who were witness to his fiery and passionate speeches were saddened by the loss. I watched the proceedings as America honored a man who served with distinction for over 50 years. I regarded it as a fitting tribute to one who truly believed in Public Service. I wrote about in KP's sister site, Outsider Views.
As I listened to all the tributes, the two that particuarly moved me was the ones by Ted Kennedy Jr and Patrick Kennedy. I was particuarly moved by how Senator Kennedy encouraged his cancer stricken son to overcome advertisy to be such a success in his own right. As I saw the motorcade drive through Washington, I could not believe that Senator Byrd was there in front mourning his colleague of 50 years. As I wrote in Outsider Views, his life is a lesson for us all. If only all of us had the courage to truly confront the issues and our own deamons.
May his soul rest in peace as he moves on to a better place and joins his family yet again. He made a difference for us all.
