McCain Loves Women, Or Not

angry McCain
McCain's love of women has been interesting political fodder. His divorce from his first wife and hasty marriage to the younger and richer Cindy has been brought up time and time again as an example of how you can be expected to be treated by McCain. Even Cindy has had to suffer his contempt with terms such as "cunt" and "trollop" tossed at her.

Of course his temper is well known and not just limited to the women in his life. McCain has a reputation of having a nasty temper that leads him to explode at others. Explosions that too often includes cursing and insulting those he disagrees with. Now we can include making spousal abuse jokes to the already impressive resume of this hot head.

According to an article at BlogHer by Erin Kotecki Vest, McCain felt he was being asked a loaded question and responded with an old joke on loaded questions and beating wives.

(Chuckling) And I stopped beating my wife just a couple of weeks ago….

Perhaps I'm just "hysterical" and "emotional", as well as the other terms thrown at women to discredit their opinions, but I don't find this funny at all. Yes, I understand the meaning of the joke. Ask a man when he stopped beating his wife then turn the answer against him. If he says never, because he never beat his wife, you take the never to mean he has not stopped. If he gives a date then use it to show he is guilty of beating his wife. McCain is trying to defuse a loaded question he was asked.

I'm still not laughing.

Obama Attempts To Make Up For

Obama New Mexico

Obama tried to repair some damage today in New Mexico. Where he had been previously criticized for his lack of respect for Clinton supporters, escalating with his infamous comment to "Get over it" he now worked to repair bridges and show that women's issues are still important to him.

He talked about supporting working women with tax credits, support for child care and after school programs, and his support for the Fair Pay Restoration Act that would help provide equal pay for women. He talked about the women in his life, his mother and grandmother, his wife and daughters.

“I am here because of my wife Michelle, who is the rock of the Obama family and who worked her way up from modest roots on the South Side of Chicago, and who’s juggled jobs and parenting with more skill and grace than anybody that I know and looks good doing it too,” he said to laughter. “Michelle and I want our two daughters, Malia and Sasha, to grow up in an America where they have the freedom and opportunity to live their dreams and raise their own families.”

He also praised Clinton and said that he hoped to work with her in the future on issues that are important to women.

Whether he is being sincere or if he is only trying to repair his image is still up for debate. I for one hope that this is more than just an attempt to make us forget about "Get over it."
